How to follow up after an interview

Wondering what is the best way to follow up after a job interview? The anticipation and eagerness throughout the interview process, and then while awaiting the results is understandable. The job interview process can feel like a long wait. This happens because of multiple internal organization processes as well as coordination and communication amongst different teams to get the position closed.

Always Send a Thank You Note

Send a follow-up email a day after the interview to your recruitment manager, thanking them for giving you the opportunity. This email should be short and crisp and should cover how eager you are to know the next step of the process. Remember, this follow-up email is a courteous email after interview completion, and need not talk about your skills again.

Thank you for your time yesterday and for allowing me to share my qualifications and profile with you. It was nice meeting and having such a productive discussion with you.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Follow Up Email After Interview

If you don’t hear back from the hiring team by a specific date, wait for a few more days to write a follow-up email. You can send out this email after a week.
Here’s how to follow up after an interview: You should start this email with a thank-you again, and then mention how interested you are in the position applied for. You can conclude the email by asking for additional information about your profile assessment.
Dear Manager
Hope you are doing well. I wanted to know if there was any news you had to share with me on my job application for the position of “Job Role”. I attended the final round of interviews in-person on [Date].
I have been very eager and excited to join your company. Will be happy to provide any additional information required from my end. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

There are times when even after sending the follow up email after interview rounds, you do not get a response. This can happen when the employer has too many job applications to process or when there has been a roadblock in hiring due to team members being unavailable for personal reasons. In such a scenario, you can follow up on the previous email. The 2nd follow-up email must be short – preferably not more than 2 statements just asking them if they have an update to share.

Final Email

Once you get their final response; you should send out the last follow-up email from your end. In case of a positive response – you can thank them for the opportunity and give them feedback on the interview process.

I am delighted to accept this offer. Looking forward to joining the organization on [Date] and starting work with such an esteemed company.
I would also like to thank you again for making my interview process smooth and for being in touch with me throughout the process.

In case you are not offered this role, you might still want to thank them for their time and ask for additional feedback. This might help you be more prepared for your upcoming interviews.

I am disappointed that this did not work out in my favour. Nevertheless, thank you and the interviewing panel for their time and for sharing knowledge about the organization with me.
