While the sweltering heat of summer looms over your head, don’t let your diet, fitness, or mental health get pushed to the back burner. Instead, actively participate in the #HealthySummerWithActivLiving campaign to thrive in different circumstances and lead a wholesome lifestyle.
Achieve your fitness goals and stay active with Meenal Pathak, Fitness Coach, as she guides you on the exercises you can do this summer.
Summer-induced health conditions include dehydration, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, sunburn, and diarrhea, due to a lack of specialized health care. Do not let your fitness goals take a backseat this summer. Since it is difficult to pull through long and sweaty workouts, follow this full-body cardio workout plan. Before beginning any exercise, ensure that you warm up to get your heart rate going.
Try the following warm-up exercises to stay fit:
- Toe taps – Tuck in your core while doing toe taps and start hand movement on either side.
- Spot jogs – Jog on the spot and eventually increase the range of motion. Tuck your core in through the navel. Stand tall and innovate your warm-ups to make them dynamic.
- Side bends – Tuck in your core for the side bends.Â
After completing your warm-up, try the following exercises:
- Jumping jacks – This is great full-body cardio, improves your overall body strength and bone density, and also improves your heart and lung capacity. There are many variations to jumping jacks at both the beginner and intermediate levels which you can try.Â
- V sit-ups – Open your legs in a V-shape, tuck in your core, roll your hands out, and rise. Those who are just starting can do a negative movement, that is, roll down from the top and lift back up. This workout helps strengthen your core muscles and your lower lumbar spine.
- Sumo squat – Open your feet in a sumo position and bend down in a squat position.
You can perform these exercises anywhere. Perform 3 sets of all the exercises with 10 repetitions.
Do not forget to cool down after your workout. Try the following cool-down exercises:
- Stretch your arms and bend towards both sides for 5 seconds each.Â
- Tuck your knees and stretch for 5 seconds on both sides.
- Stretch your hands on both sides for 5 seconds.
