The months under lockdown have seen cases of anxiety rising throughout the country and the world. In such uncertain times, it is easy to get fearful and worried about the future. According to a survey by the Indian Psychiatric Society, the number of reported cases of mental illness had risen by 20 percent within just one week of the lockdown announcement.
Anxiety often feels similar to fear and if it is not treated in its early stages it can lead to depression. Anxiety can be managed by taking small steps. It is always advisable to talk to a mental health professional. Dr. Aditi Gowitrikar explains how we can identify thoughts and feelings that give us anxiety. She gives her own example saying that she too gets anxious about her parents’ health.
