Iron is an important mineral that you need to get from your daily diet. Your ideal Daily Value (DV) of iron intake should replenish the iron lost in forming red blood cells. Many iron-rich Indian foods can help fulfil your daily iron intake too.

Legumes including beans like rajma, or dals (lentils), peas and soybean are a rich source of iron. In fact, tofu which is made from soybean is an ideal iron-rich vegetarian food. Legumes are also a good iron-rich food with of fibre, magnesium and potassium.

For non-vegetarians, most meats tend to have high iron content. Red meats like mutton, pork and beef have a high heme iron content, which is necessary for people with anaemia. However, it might not be ideal for people with heart conditions and diabetes. Instead, white meats like fish and chicken can be a healthier option.

Spinach is a low-calorie option, which is also rich in vitamin C to improve iron absorption. Broccoli and other leafy vegetables like cabbage and cauliflower can be good iron-rich foods too. In dessert options, dark chocolates with at least 70% cocoa tend to have a high iron content.
